After your Placement

Write and thank your employer! Example letter thanking employer for work experience

Briefly tell him/her what you gained from the experience and what you particularly enjoyed.

After your placement you will have the chance to think about what you learned and how the experience links to your course work and future career plans.

Your Work Experience Certificate Log Book/Log Book Plus or diary will help you remember what you did, what you enjoyed, what you didn’t enjoy, what you learned about health and safety and which work and key skills you developed.

Talk to friends, parents/carers, brothers/sisters about your work experience placement – their questions will help you remember and think about what you have gained from the experience.

You might have lessons to discuss your experiences with other students. This could happen in PHSE, English, Business Studies or even in Drama lessons.

You might have a ‘debriefing’ session with a teacher to find out:

  • If the placement was what you expected – and if not, why not?
  • If a health and safety briefing was given while you were on placement?
  • What was good and bad about the placement?
  • If you had any problems with the Work Experience Certificate Log Book/Log Book Plus or your work experience diary?
  • What could be done to make the whole work experience package better?

It is important to discuss and share your experiences – even if you disliked your placement! You will all have gained a lot from work experience.
