Introduction to Connexions West of England Work Experience Certificate Log Books and Accreditation Systems

Connexions West of England (CWE) has produced two Work Experience Certificate Log Books:

  • Work Experience Certificate Log Book
This is designed for use with students (aged 14-16) in mainstream education. Teachers, employers and Connexions personal advisers were involved in its development. Approximately 60 schools/other providers of work experience across the four local unitary authorities use this resource. Best Practice and Resources – CWE Work Experience Certificate Log Book
  • Work Experience Certificate Log Book Plus
This version, launched in 2002, was designed in response to requests from staff in special schools who wanted a log book more suited to the needs of students (aged 14-16) with learning difficulties. There is less text and more graphics to make it more accessible. Approximately 40 schools/other providers of work experience across the four local unitary authorities use this resource. Many mainstream schools use this alongside the CWE Work Experience Certificate Log Book with their less academic students.Best Practice and Resources – CWE Work Experience Certificate Log Book Plus

The Log Books aim to encourage students (aged 14-16) to:

  • complete the process of planning, doing, reviewing and learning from work experience
  • take responsibility for deciding the personal targets they would like to work towards during work experience
  • collect evidence to show their achievements during work experience Best Practice and Resources - Collecting Evidence to Show Achievement
  • complete tasks which will extend their knowledge of the working environment.

Once a school/other provider of work experience has registered to use the log books, support materials and training from Connexions West of England are made available. Both log books lead to the same certificate endorsed by Connexions West of England and the Learning and Skills Council West of England.
