What next?
Hopefully the process of organising and going on work experience will have helped your child to develop their personal and employability skills as well as improving their understanding of the world of work. On the strength of this they may be reconsidering their future when they reach 16.
You can support by:
- Being aware of the choices your child will have. See Useful Links – Parents and Carers. You will be better placed to advise and support.
- Attending local events about post–16 options. The range of opportunities is vast and exciting. You might be surprised at the range of possibilities!
- Attending Parent/Carer Evenings at school. Knowing your child´s predicted levels of attainment will help you and them make realistic choices. You may also be able to speak to a Connexions Personal Adviser about the full range of post–16 opportunities available in the local area.
- Encouraging your child to have a back up plan in case their first choice falls through.
